Specialises in Counselling for

Woman, Young Women and Children over Seven

Children Over Seven

Are you facing challenges? You may be experiencing changes at home, problems at school, bullying, lack of confidence, low self-esteem. Unique Family Counsellor gives children and young people the opportunity to talk about how they feel without the fear of being judged.

The Unique Family Counsellor offers a safe environment for children to express and explore their feelings. Throughout the counselling session, your child will have the opportunity to use creative materials such as drawing, painting, toys and reading to express their thoughts and feelings through whichever way they feel comfortable. Older children or young people may prefer talking therapy, or a mixture of both.

Speaking to a counsellor, away from home and school life can help to take away some of the pressure the child or young person and the family may be facing. It is ok to talk about your feelings, whatever they are there is no wrong or right way.  I will not shout at you, be angry, upset or shocked. I am here to help you!

Here is a list of some of the problems I can support you with :

Exam stress

Bullying

Relationship issues with friends

Learning difficulties

Emotional and behavioural problems

Bereavement

Attachment disorder

Separation or anxiety

Bed wetting

Nightmares

The Counselling Process

Involves both parents or carer and the child or young person talking with the counsellor while providing them with an opportunity to decide whether they wish to proceed with counselling.  Regular attendance is a crucial part of the counselling process. Clients should be prepared to commit to a least a  minimum of seven sessions, and a maximum of eighteen, which will regularly be reviewed to ensure we are meeting the needs of the child or young person.

*Please note that counselling from the age of seven  -  sixteen is only face to face, which takes place at my place of practice 21 Wilbraham Road Manchester M14 6JS. Young people from the age of 18 and adults can apply for online counselling. When children and young people are in therapy, both parents or carer must stay in the building*.

Confidentiality

Any information that is disclosed to me, I treat confidentially. However, as a counsellor if I feel a child, a young person is either a danger to themselves or others,  I do have a duty under the Children’s Act, 1989 to report any child protections concerns to social services.
